Grand Island businesses recovering after plaza fire

Sat, Dec 14th 2019 07:00 am

A fire on Tuesday, Nov. 26, at the Tai Pei restaurant, 2315 Grand Island Blvd., has impacted neighboring businesses in the same plaza.

All employees were able to safely exit the building when the fire broke out, the Grand Island Fire Co. reported. Fire suppression crews put out a fire that was concentrated in a loft above the ceiling tiles, but not before “extensive interior damage” occurred, the GIFC reported.

Total damage was estimated at $150,000 to the structure and $50,000 to the contents. Two adjoining stores – Eddie’s Art Shoppe and X-Press Dry Cleaners – sustained $10,000 each from smoke infiltration through the common loft area.

Linda Feldman of Eddie’s Art Shoppe reported this week that she will be out of commission for two to three months.

The dry cleaners was closed almost a week, but is back open now.
