DPW awaiting final pieces for Lewiston waterfront

Fishermen and visitors to the Village of Lewiston waterfront have noticed the last remnant of the old, damaged dock is gone. A replacement is on the way, and will be installed as soon as possible – likely after the holidays.

The Department of Public Works and engineer Mike Marino are waiting for warmer weather, at which time the remaining concrete can be poured. The elevated area shown below the safety barrel at left has to be extended to connect with a new walkway.

This construction is not expected to impact the launch site. A portable dock, pictured right of the ramp, will remain until the ice moves into this portion of the Niagara River.

As shown in the top right of the photos, the floating docks are in place. In addition to the aforementioned, walkway blacktop is all that’s left before the waterfront is complete. Fingerlings will open again next spring.

In total, almost $2 million will be spent renovating the waterfront, (hopefully) ensuring the dock slips can withstand future rounds of high water.

The vast majority of monies the village is spending here will be reimbursed through state and federal awards, in addition to insurance claims.

A new fishing pier was completed toward the end of summer. It is north of the parking lot, and right of The Silo Restaurant.
