Crafts, performances & tree displays all part of ‘Deck the Halls’ event

The New York Power Authority holds its annual “Deck the Halls” from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at the admission-free Niagara Power Vista at the Niagara Power Project in Lewiston.

The event will feature free photos with Santa until 2 p.m. Additional activities in the Power Vista’s Community Room will include entertainment, face painting and crafts with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, and University Heights Arts Association.

Performances will include the Harry F. Abate elementary chorus at 11 a.m. (led by Kelly Gawron), Legends Dance Studio dancers at 12:30 p.m., and the Harry F. Abate and G.J. Mann elementary schools combined band (led by Mike Kineke) at 2:30 p.m. All performances will be in the Community Room.

State parks will provide free rides on its Niagara Scenic Trolley between the Gorge Discovery Center and the Niagara Power Vista during the event.

Visitors can also view more than 60 trees on display as part of the annual “Festival of Trees” event, which continues through Dec. 31. Area nonprofit organizations decorate artificial trees adorned with LED lights provided by NYPA.

In addition to holiday activities, guests are invited to enjoy the Power Vista’s state-of-the-art exhibits by taking a seat in the 4-D simulated ride, creating a transmission distribution system on a one-of-a-kind transmission grid table, building a dam or simulating the coordination of power across the state. Admission and parking are free.
