Though this is the coldest time of the year, winter brings friends and family together making this the best season out of all. From watching the snow fall from the warmth of your couch to drinking a cup of hot chocolate, winter is the escape everyone needs.

Also, winter is a holiday season full of traditions many come together to celebrate, such as Christmas, Hanukkah, Thanksgiving and New Year's Eve. Traditions are very important and, during the winter, families have their own traditions to have fun during the season. These traditions keep friends and family together and makes the season much more special.

One of the best things of winter is the clothes: they are warm and comfortable; ugly sweaters and sweatpants are the everyday look to spend in a cold day. Some would say winter is home to the best holidays because, though winter is cold, it makes people feel warm and happy.

There are many things one can do to make a holiday winter experience better, such as going skiing with siblings, going on a date to get a Christmas tree at the local tree farm, going sledding with best friends, decorating a room with all of the Christmas essentials and many more activities to do with one’s favorite people. These activities make spending time with family much more fun and entertaining because they can bring everyone together.

Thanksgiving can sometimes be underrated; there are many plans one can make during this time. For example, there is nothing better than eating pumpkin pie and going to the pumpkin patch with your family and friends. This time is perfect for sweater weather – and let’s not forget about playing in the leaves after they fall from the trees. That can be a great time to play with your family after a long and delicious dinner. And the most important part of Thanksgiving the turkey, the delicious turkey that your family makes for the annual Thanksgiving dinner with the family.

People love the winter for many different reasons, such as playing on the snow and building a snowman. Brooke Thompson, a freshman at SUNY Geneseo loves winter because, “Winter reminds me of home and my friends, mostly because I’m far from home and, when winter break arrives, I cheer up,” she said. Thompson said the holiday season is important, because it reminds us of childhood memories and how time is important.

Though many prefer the scenery of spring and summer, winter brings a different type of scenery – the type makes one believe they’re living in a winter wonderland. Another great part of winter is the beautiful scenery in which the landscape is filled of sparkle, and the trees covered in fresh, white powdery snow – making you feel as if you were in a movie. Just like living with the elves and Santa Claus at the North Pole, which is every child's dream.

Maddie Spear is a winter lover, she said, because fashion can be unique.

“During winter, you can be creative, you can express yourself differently. The cold weather makes me want wear layer over layers of warm clothes and comfy but fashionable boots,” Spear said.

People also like to stay home for the holiday, because they get to participate in local activities such as the towns tree-lighting ceremonies, Christmas caroling, or watching “The Nutcracker” at the local theaters.

One can also go to local holiday parades with friends.

However, not everyone stays home for the holidays, many like to travel and experience new adventures with family and friends and, though many love winter, there are those who escape the cold by going on road trips or flying to warm and tropical places.

No one loves white Christmas as much Alicia Nash. For the past two years, Nash has been traveling to Florida with her grandparents for the holidays. She now enjoys the warmth of a hot Christmas.

“We sometimes take the little things for granted, being able to travel during winter and see all of the different things people do during the holidays is interesting, because it shows you the many things that can make someone happy,” Nash said.

Around this time people get excited to go to these stores and buy their favorite holiday drink. As such, many companies take part in the holiday season. For example, Starbucks makes seasonal drinks and products to sell. The company is known for its most famous holiday drink, peppermint mocha Frappuccino. Places like these take the winter season as an opportunity to profit from the holiday season.

Winter is the best time of the year, because, during the holidays, many spend their time helping those in need and doing nice things for the community. For some, serving the community is important. There are many things one can do to help. A good way for individuals to get in the holiday spirit is to spend their holiday giving back to those in need. Some people donate Christmas presents and household items to those that are less fortunate. Volunteer groups go bell-ringing to raise money for the Salvation Army, because giving to the community is important. There is no better feeling that helping those who need it the most.

A fun and competitive activity that many also participate in is having the best decorated house. News broadcasters follow these competitions as neighbors compete to see who can decorate their house in the very best way. They spare no expense on the extravagant lights and inflatable yard decorations. These events help the community get in the holiday spirit, as the decorations help everyone get in a good mood. It is a break from the everyday life.

Though many hate the cold and long winter, it can aggreged that winter has many activities and fun things to do that the rest of the year does not. It is also fair to say many families dislike the winter and would rather spend the holidays at home. Everyone, however, knows the spirt of winter makes people be in a good and happy mood, which is why winter is the best season of them all.
