Wheatfield approves budget; beefs up security

At a recent Town Board meeting, officials in the Town of Wheatfield had a lot to deliberate through, according to Supervisor Don MacSwan. The first matter of business was a public hearing on the preliminary budget, which was approved without any further input.

Further into the meeting, the subject of security at Town Hall came up.

“We’ve had some incidents with a couple of irate people,” MacSwan said.

To rectify the situation, he is set to meet with Chief Constable Roger Thompson to decide how to provide that level of security and still stay within the budget.

Other items included a public hearing to the effect of allowing the town to sponsor Borge Brewing for its grant application.

“It’s not approving the site plan,” MacSwan said. “They have to go to the Planning Board for that.”

Also, the proposal to place banners on streetlamp poles along Niagara Falls Boulevard was also discussed for what MacSwan described as “baby steps” toward the complete vision of the project. For now, he said, 10 banners would be put up. Permission to do so had already been received from National Grid, which owns the poles.

As for an update looking back at the recent spooky holiday, MacSwan publicly asked Recreation Director Mike Ranalli to stand in recognition of the Halloween party he organized for the municipality.

“I’ve received several calls on what a wonderful event it was,” MacSwan said.
