Iconic girl-led entrepreneurship program develops next generation of female business leaders.

The early launch of the iconic Girl Scout Cookie Program is making the winter season a little brighter – just in time for the holidays. Girl Scout Cookie lovers across Western New York will be able to purchase their favorite cookies online only through direct shipping throughout the sale Dec. 7 to March 29, and then purchase cookies directly at cookie booths March 1-29. To purchase cookies from a Girl Scout, the public can go to gswny.org or call 1-888-837-6410.

The Girl Scout Cookie Program is the largest entrepreneurial program for girls in the world, providing hands-on practice with a variety of skills, including goal-setting, decision-making, money management, people skills and business ethics as they learn to think like entrepreneurs.

Through the program, girls not only discover their inner leadership potential, but also use their earnings to power unique experiences for themselves and their troop, including community service, travel, outdoor adventure, and science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) programming.

The change in the programs’ start date accommodates the overwhelming amount of requests received by girls and their customers to have Girl Scout cookies available during the holiday season. This program year, girls will receive more benefits from their cookie sales supplemented by the $5 cost per box. 2020 will also mark the final year for the Thanks-A-Lot cookie, as it will go into retirement.

In celebration of the early launch of the cookie program, the public is invited to attend a free cookie tasting at Girl Scouts of Western New York’s “PJs, Pillows, & Cocoa Event” for girls ages 5-17 and families who are not currently in Girl Scouts. The event is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, December 7, at Girl Scouts of Western New York’s Service Centers:

  • Batavia Service Center, 5 Jackson St., Batavia
  • Buffalo Service Center, 3332 Walden Ave., Suite 106, Depew
  • Jamestown Service Center, 2661 Horton Road, Jamestown
  • Lockport Service Center, 5000 Cambria Road, Lockport
  • Rochester Service Center, 1000 Elmwood Ave., Door 9, Rochester

Girls must be accompanied by an adult. Enrolled Girl Scouts must bring a non-Girl Scout friend to attend. Register at gswny.org.

At this free event, girls and families can enjoy Girl Scout Cookies and hot cocoa, can make an online purchase of cookies from a girl, learn about Girl Scout membership and adult volunteering, make a special decorative pillow to keep or donate, write Santa a letter, and wear PJs (optional).

“We are committed to positioning girls for success both now and in the future through our comprehensive, year-round program experience for girls,” said Alison Wilcox, CEO of Girl Scouts of Western New York. “As the largest girl-led entrepreneurial program in the world, the Girl Scout Cookie Program provides girls with an unparalleled experience to hone their entrepreneurial skills and build a lifetime of leadership. We also welcome adult volunteers and girls to join Girl Scouts.”

The Girl Scout Cookie Program runs Dec. 7 to March 29. To learn more about supporting a girl with a purchase, girl membership or adult volunteerism, visit gswny.org or call 1-888-837-6410.

Girl Scouts of Western New York serves nearly 15,000 girls and over 6,000 adult volunteers across the GSWNY jurisdiction, including Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Niagara, Orleans and Wyoming counties. The council’s administrative service centers are located in Batavia, Buffalo, Jamestown, Lockport, Niagara Falls and Rochester.
