Girl Scouts of Western New York’s popular fall product program returns to help girls enrich their financial literacy and cyber-safety skills. Girls use an online digital platform to engage close friends and family to order candies, nuts, magazines, candles and other items. The fall product program runs until Oct. 26.

The community can support a local Girl Scout when they stock up on popular items such as Dark Chocolate Mint Penguins, Dulce de Leche Owls, English Butter Toffee, Peanut Butter Bears, Dark Chocolate Caramel Caps with Sea Salt, Chocolate Covered Raisins, fat free Fruit Slices, and new items including Dark Chocolate Peppermint Pretzels, BBQ Flavored Snack Mix, Thin Mints Almonds, scented candles, Tervis mugs and greeting cards. Prices range from $6 to $40.

A press release stated, “Through the fall product program, girls gain solid money smarts and the knowledge of how to navigate selling products in a digital environment, which are skills that will last girls a lifetime. Learning by doing gives girls a sense of accomplishment and pride in their abilities. Girl Scout Research Institute studies show that 90% of girls say it is important for them to learn how to manage money and 88% of girls say that it is important to set financial goals, and this program helps them to do just that.”

Girls are also taught the importance of cyber-safety as they use a digital database to track their orders and send out electronic emails to their customers. This friends and family program teaches girls five skills: goal-setting, decision-making, money management, people skills and business ethics. Girls also learn the benefits of working together as a team, as well as earning money to support their activities throughout the year.

Customers can also elect to help the local military. Through the fall product program, Project Share Program, customers can choose to purchase items to benefit local military personnel and veterans.
