Chester M. Dulak, 76, of Grand Island, departed this life April 24, 2019. He was the loving husband of 52 years to Cheryl Dulak (Bovee); devoted father of David (Katey) Dulak and Andrew (Brandy) Dulak; the active grandfather to six grandchildren; dear son (Sonny) of the late Julia and Chester Dulak; and dearest brother of Patricia Krieger, Thomas (Marie) Dulak, and the late Connie (late Bill) Wnuk. He is survived by many nieces and nephews and fondly missed by everyone he strove to make smile and cheer up everywhere he went every day of his life.

Chet taught sixth grade in the Buffalo City Schools for 32 years, where he also started the first 4-H Club in the City of Buffalo. He volunteered with Hospice for over 25 years, staffing their booth at local health fairs and putting aside an entire week for the Hospice Bouquet Sale. He volunteered regularly to drive elderly American Cancer Society patients to their appointments. He gave over 100 presentations to children and adult groups teaching about the Iroquois Indians. Over the years he had also volunteered teaching Sunday school classes, and serving as a docent at the Buffalo Zoo and Tift Nature Preserve. He visited Grand Island Tops Supermarkets daily for the last 15 years as his personal Social Club, bringing cheer.

Chet will be remembered for his devotion to his family, boundless cheer and humor, caring heart, generosity of gifts and of his time to others, love of food and friends, and his endless hunt for a good deal.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 3, at Kenmore Alliance Church, 175 Bonnett Ave., Tonawanda. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that anyone who has a fond story of Chet from over the years to please email it to [email protected]. We know he touched the hearts of so many on Grand Island and would like to gather as many stories as possible. Thank you!
