Seasonal fundraiser also raises money for educational programming

Old Fort Niagara is ready to share its darker side with visitors during its new “Lantern and Lore Tours” in October. Tickets are now on sale for this seasonal fundraiser, which benefits the fort’s educational programming.

Tour guides, dressed in 18th-century clothing, will lead groups of visitors from Old Fort Niagara’s visitor center into the dark fort while telling stories from its haunted past. Heard about the “ghost in the well”? How about the “hobgoblin” or the “wall of fog”? The tours will fill in the details!

Tours are planned at 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 4, 11, 18 and 25. Tickets are $20 per person, available by presale only on a first-come, first-served basis, by calling the fort at 716-745-7611 during normal business hours (9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays).

This event is best suited for adults and children ages 10 and older. Visitors will be provided with lanterns and should wear comfortable walking shoes.

Old Fort Niagara (www.oldfortniagara.org) is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admissions end 30 minutes before closing.
