The First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston, 505 Cayuga St., will hold a blessing of pets at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14.

This custom is conducted in remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi’s love for all creatures.

“A blessing of pets is a way to witness to God’s and the church’s love, care and concern for creation. It is also a time with special appeal to children,” said the Rev. Dr. Elizabeth Morgan, pastor of First Presbyterian.

A press release further stated, “If you have a beloved pet, please consider bringing them to be blessed.”

For safety and security, all pets must be restrained – dogs on leashes, cats, hamsters, guinea pigs and even snakes should be in carriers or crates. Larger animals such as horses or donkeys are also welcome.

The blessing will take place on the grassy area adjacent to the back parking lot. In the event of rain, it will be moved to the social hall.

Hot dogs and salads will be available following the service.
