Free early childhood activities offered at Harry F. Abate Elementary School

Children between the ages of 2 and 4 who reside in the north and south end of Niagara Falls are invited to participate in “Nurturing in the Neighborhood,” a free program that provides early childhood activities and parent workshops.

Children’s activities will include early childhood learning, early reading skills, food and nutrition, recreational fun, behavioral health, developmental screenings, and social interactions. Parent workshops, hosted by community organizations, will take place during the youth program, connecting parents to local resources and providing strategies for their child's development, social emotional skills, nutrition, and other useful topics.

The program will be held from 9:15-11:15 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays from Sept. 24 through Nov. 7 at Harry F. Abate Elementary School, 1625 Lockport St., Niagara Falls.

“ ‘Nurturing in the Neighborhood’ provides children and families with opportunities to learn and grow academically, while preparing them to have the necessary kindergarten-readiness skills to assure academic success,” said Patricia Wrobel, executive director of Niagara University’s Levesque Institute for Civic Engagement.

“Nurturing in the Neighborhood” is a collaboration of Niagara University, the Niagara Falls City School District, and Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, funded by the Health Foundation of Western and Central York.
