3 Western New York grantees receive a total of $50,000

General Motors Co. GMCH Lockport Operations announced the recipients of its 2019 GM community grants: United Way of Greater Niagara, $30,000; Junior Achievement of Western New York, $10,000; and the Environmental Education Foundation of Soil and Water Conservation, $10,000.

The formal check recognition was held in conjunction with Lockport Operations’ annual Buy American Classic Car Show.

“We’re happy to be supporting the community in which live and work with these grants,” said Ken Johnson, GM Lockport Operations plant director. “The Lockport team believes that supporting causes like these strengthens western New York. They help people overcome life barriers, prepare youth to reach their full potential, and set an example of responsible environmental stewardship. We’ve been an integral part of Lockport and Western New York well over 100 years and appreciate the opportunity to do what we can to improve the community.”

Today’s announcement comes on top of last week’s news that Lockport has secured new business to supply several powertrain thermal components for an important future General Motors high-volume vehicle. The additional work strengthens Lockport’s portfolio of precision components that includes radiators, condensers, heater cores and oil coolers. Specific timing and product details of the new business will be announced at a future date.

GMCH Lockport was founded in 1910 as the Harrison Radiator Company for the purpose of designing, manufacturing and selling automotive radiators and components. The company flourished into a lean manufacturing site that produces a wide complement of powertrain cooling and HVAC components and systems. The site currently provides components for General Motors vehicles such as the GMC Yukon, Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Silverado and the all-new mid-engine Corvette.

Lockport Operations employs over 1,400 people. the hourly workforce is represented by UAW Local 686.

GM Lockport Operations and UAW 686 provided extra enthusiasm and support for the Lockport community and the annual Buy American car show.
