Both local veterans and officials participated Friday in a groundbreaking ceremony for the “Circle of Honor,” the new Lewiston veterans memorial at Academy Park.

The to-be-built landmark is being described as “one of the most distinctive small-town veterans memorials in America.” It will be unveiled during an evening ceremony on Veterans Day, Nov. 11.

The “Circle of Honor” will feature an eternal flame with the description, “America’s flame burns brightly, fueled by the courage and sacrifice of those who have defended our freedoms,” along with over 500 names of Lewiston veterans, both alive and deceased.
