Trinity United Methodist Church to host 'Summer Breakout'

Sat, Jul 13th 2019 07:00 am

Come this Saturday, Trinity United Methodist Church is teaming up with Island businesses to host a new happening aimed at giving back to the Grand Island community.

Called “Summer Breakout,” this event is geared to assist Island families with children on summer break in one area where they can use it the most: in the wallet.

“If you’re a typical family, summer starts off with a bang of excitement as children finally reach the end of their countdown of days left in the school year,” said Trinity Pastor Kevin Slough. “But, how many of us haven’t already heard, ‘What are we going to do today?’ without an answer that sends us reaching into our wallets for relief?”

Trinity United Methodist Church has just the answer. Realizing that parents and children could certainly use a safe, welcoming and free event, Slough challenged Trinity Church members to step up to the plate with an opportunity to give back to Islanders.

Summer Breakout comes our way from 4-8 p.m. Saturday, July 13, on the grounds of Trinity United Methodist Church. Organized by Kate Fonte, Trinity Child and Family Ministries coordinator, the lawns of the church grounds at 2100 Whitehaven Road will be filled with a variety of fun attractions geared for families to enjoy: carnival games and bounce houses, along with a water slide, a blow-up obstacle course and Velcro wall, sure to bring smiles and laughter at no cost!

“Tired of plastic and rubber toys with no place to put them? We’ve solved this problem through a Gift Basket Giveaway where over 80 kid-themed baskets will be given away as prizes for carnival games,” Fonte said.

Shown are a sampling of the baskets designed and donated by Grand Island Businesses and Trinity members to keep preschoolers through teens busy during the remaining seven weeks of summer, each with a retail value of $15-$25.

Two rounds of basket giveaways are planned – the first at 5:45 p.m. and the second at 7:45 p.m. Trinity officials said they are limiting this giveaway to one basket per child in order to allow for more children to share in the generosity.

Live Music and Step-In-Time Dancers will delight the senses and keep the adults entertained as well. And those wishing to delight their taste buds will be able to purchase food from the Cheesy Chick and Sassy Cakes – the only items that will cost at Summer Breakout.

Island families are invited to stop by, enjoy an afternoon of fun and sharing, and have their little ones come home with a memory.

Summer Breakout is being offered to the Grand Island community by the congregation of Trinity United Methodist Church, which welcomes all to worship on Sundays at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.

Special thanks for this unique event go out to the following businesses that provided gifts for baskets: Mighty Taco, Pink Martini Gift Shop, Branches Campground, Tops, Tim Hortons, Ritz Nails, and the Family Life Network.
