Tall ships in Buffalo for Basil Port of Call

Twelve tall ships ported in Buffalo over the Independence Day weekend, making the Queen City a popular spot with locals and tourists alike. The Buffalo Lighthouse Association served as the host port organizer for the first American harbor on the route of this year’s Tall Ships Challenge race series in the Great Lakes.

The event with themed “Basil Port of Call: Buffalo,” and it was the first of a triennial series of challenge port visits.

Joseph F. Basil Sr. was the 1st honorary commodore, while the Basil Automotive Family was the event’s title sponsor.

Founded in 1985, the nonprofit Buffalo Lighthouse Association works to preserve Buffalo’s maritime heritage.
