The Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo, on behalf of the Oliver G. & Sarah Sloan Bauman Fund for the Arts, announced awards totaling more than $47,000 to six Western New York nonprofit organizations for the 2019 granting cycle. The Bauman Fund for the Arts administers grants annually to Western New York organizations that specialize in the areas of traditional, classical ballet and opera.

The 2019 Bauman Fund for the Arts grant recipients include:

•Ballet Artists of WNY Inc. (aka Neglia Ballet)

•Buffalo Chamber Players

•Buffalo Opera Unlimited

•Chautauqua Regional Youth Ballet

•Fredonia College Foundation-Hillman Opera

•Greater Niagara Ballet Company

The Bauman Fund for the Arts was established in 1996 by Sarah Bauman Baxter as a unique way to carry on her father’s name, Oliver Bauman, forever. Baxter and her father shared a love of the classics, including ballet and opera. When Baxter passed away, she translated that shared interest into a legacy gift she hoped would “perpetuate the appreciation of such fine arts as an important and integral part” of the arts and cultural community Western New York.

Since the Bauman Fund for the Arts was established more than 20 years ago, it has awarded close to $600,000 to Western New York nonprofit organizations for the benefit of the region’s arts and cultural communities. It has ensured the classical traditions of ballet and opera are a consistent part of this region’s cultural heritage.
