Lew-Port Business Academy students graduate

Sat, Jun 15th 2019 07:00 am

Earlier this week, Lewiston-Porter High School graduated its seventh cohort of students from the Academy of International Business & Finance: Domenic Barile, Miguel Bautista, Lucas Diez, Vincent Holliday, Elaina Jowdy, Angelina Steffen, Hailey Swanson and Luke Wilson.

Academy Director Nicole Alonzo, a high school business instructor, described the program as a school-within-a-school approach to education with a focus on a single academic discipline. It is designed for students who seek to broaden their knowledge in the growing field of international business.

For the student, the Business Academy is both a challenging and rewarding program as well as a unique educational experience. Students complete a 120-hour compensated internship and participate in an international experience that often includes travel to a foreign country.

Those who successfully complete the program are eligible to receive up to 21 college credits from Lew-Port’s higher-education partners.

“It is always a privilege to work with such talented students as our academy graduates,” Alonzo said. “They are an extremely hard-working and striving group, and I look forward to seeing what incredible things they accomplish in the future.”
