On Saturday morning, runners and walkers gathered at Holy Ghost Lutheran School for the first Bergholz 5K.

The 3.1-mile trek ventured through the streets of the hamlet of Bergholz and drew a stellar gathering of joggers and walkers. The event also promoted health and wellness in the town, as well as facilities and operations at Holy Ghost.

In addition to the 5K, there was a 1-mile fun run. Following the race, there was a post-race party featuring food, refreshments, beverages and awards at Holy Ghost. Mother Nature also contributed quality weather for the event.

The race received support from the Town of Wheatfield Constable Department, as well as the Bergholz Fire Police, who guided and provided safety for runners, and patrolled traffic in the area.

Marissa Dressel of Buffalo took the overall championship with a time of 20:31 (6:36 average mile). Nathaniel Johnson was the first male to finish the 5K. Johnson clocked a time of 22:13 (7:09 average), for second place overall.

Race director Andy Klettke said he was happy about the turnout for the event and plans are already in the works for 2020.
