Falcons golfers struggle at Section VI tournament

On Monday, five Niagara-Wheatfield golfers – Anthony Delisanti, Nolan Codd, Adam Liberti, RJ Delisanti and Dom Rotunno – competed in the Section VI Golf Tournament.

As Niagara Frontier League champions, the five Falcons played in the team aspect of the tournament, while the Delisanti brothers, Codd and Liberti were fighting for a spot in the New York state tournament.

Success was a plenty this season for N-W, as the team extended its illustrious winning streak to 91 matches, but on Monday, windy conditions played a little key in some higher-than-normal scores for the group.

The Falcons finished fourth in the team aspect, as Orchard Park of the ECIC took home the Section VI crown.

Codd and Anthony Delisanti were the lone N-W golfers to make the cut for the final nine holes of the tournament, but the duo finished in 13th and 10th place, respectively.

The finishes sting for the two, as only the top-nine scorers qualified for states.

Anthony Delisanti shot 14-over, while Codd was 17-over.

For Codd, it was his last outing for the Falcons, as the senior captain has been on the team since he was a seventh grader.

Anthony Delisanti, who has won the NFL tournament the past two years, will return next season as a junior.
