NCCC Future Leaders hosts career speaker series

Thu, May 23rd 2019 11:50 am

The Future Leaders Liberty Partnerships Program at Niagara County Community College, in cooperation with LaSalle Preparatory School in Niagara Falls, has been holding a career speaker series once a week after school for students.  From November through March, professionals in the Western New York community have come to the school to discuss their career, educational background and the journey that brought them to their current position.

Speakers came from a variety of backgrounds, including local government, education, the military, medical fields, and many more.  Gaelan Ballie, entrepreneur and owner of Niagara Bike Rentals, Niagara Pedicab Company, and Blue Bikes at Canalside was a recent guest speaker.  Ballie discussed starting his business, Niagara Pedicab in 2011, and the route to a full expansion into the rental business.  Buffalo Niagara Hospitality Inc. now offers a full line of rentals, including bikes, strollers, wheelchairs and mobility scooters in Erie and Niagara counties.

The experience interacting with students inspired Ballie to get more involved with local students.  This fall, he will volunteer along with other local entrepreneurs to start an entrepreneurship club at the Niagara County Community College Small Business Development Center.

The Future Leaders Liberty Partnerships Program at NCCC is sponsored by a New York State Department of Education grant and currently serves over 300 students throughout Western New York, assisting them throughout high school and transitioning them into a college or career pathway.  For more information on the program, visit http://niagaracc.suny.edu/futureleaders/.
