Runners and walkers alike; there is an event for you coming to the Town of Wheatfield in June.

Holy Ghost Lutheran Church and School, 6630 Luther St., will host the Bergholz 5K at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 8. The event is seeking to promote health and wellness in the town, as well as facilities and operations at Holy Ghost.

The 5-kilometer race (3.1 miles) will go through the streets of Bergholz. The route is as follows: Runners will start at Holy Ghost and head west down Washington Street, make a right on to Schultz Street, then another quick right on to Stoelting Street. Heading east on Stoelting Street, runners will take a right turn on to Hunt Street, before taking another quick right on to Washington Street. From Washington Street, runners will turn left on to Luther Street, head down to make a left turn on to Rose Court, then right on to Reynolds Road. From Reynolds Road, the runners will turn left on to Sy Road, then right on to Old Falls Boulevard.

For the final mile, runners will advance down Old Falls Boulevard and make a right on to Schultz Street, before making another right on Cayuga Street, then right on to Rohr Street. After advancing south on Rohr Street, runners will turn left on to Sylvan Place, then left down Luther Street to the finish line adjacent to Holy Ghost.

Race Director Andy Klettke said the track has been U.S. Track and Field certified.

For those not seeking a run, there is a 1-mile fun run.

Those interested in the run can register at https://runsignup.com/Race/NY/NIAGARAFALLS/Bergholz5K. Registration for the run is $20 ($25 after May 31), while the mile run is $20 with a T-shirt ($25 after May 31) and $10 with no T-shirt. In addition, registration forms can be picked up at Wheatfield Town Hall, 2800 Church Road, and on the town’s website (www.wheatfield.ny.us).

Following the race, there will be a post-race party featuring food, refreshments, beverages and awards at Holy Ghost.

“Everyone is, of course, welcome to attend,” Klettke said during a presentation at Monday night’s Wheatfield Town Board meeting.

Klettke added that Wheatfield constables and the Bergholz Fire Police will assist the race to provide safety for all runners involved.

Klettke said, “It’s very much appreciated. The support has been great so far.”

Wheatfield Supervisor Don MacSwan wished Klettke’s event the best and said, “Good luck, I hope you have a good and successful run.”
