Pancakes, shredding = Kiwanis Scholarships and Kampers

The Kiwanis Club of Niagara-Wheatfield recently held two fundraising events. One was the annual pancake breakfast and basket raffle, and the other a document-shredding event.

The pancake breakfast was held in conjunction with New York State Maple Syrup Weekend. Beginning at 9 a.m. in the Wheatfield American Legion Post 1451, there was a steady line of customers, some returning guests and many newcomers to the event. The breakfast was comprised of coffee, juice, milk (on request), sausage, and all-you-can-eat hot, fluffy pancakes topped with warm, real New York state maple syrup. It was a sit-down breakfast with the children of West Street Elementary School K-Kids and friends scurrying about serving the foods and cleaning tables. Over 125 baskets were lined around the back of the Legion hall, along with the hopeful winners dropping their tickets into the containers. Many participants won multiple baskets. The Kiwanis members extended their thanks for the donation.

The Niagara-Wheatfield Kiwanis Club held its first free shredding event. This was held for three hours at the Raymour & Flanigan store on Niagara Falls Boulevard. A truck with locked containers was on site receiving the documents. The truck, with containers, then proceeded to a facility to be shredded and processed into a pulp mixture and recycled into usable paper and cardboard products. Refreshment were served by Raymour & Flanigan.

All of the proceeds from the fundraisers will spread into the Kiwanis’ scholarship awards, summer camp at Kamp Kiwanis and other children programs. All the money raised will be spent in the community. The N-W Kiwanis extended a “Thank you” to all the donations, baskets, pancake breakfast food, supplies and the community support.
