On Tuesday, Calamar, 3949 Forest Parkway, presented the Town of Wheatfield seniors with a donation of canned goods following its canned food sculpture contest.

The contest was done by Calamar, the Calamar Foundation, and throughout all 18 of the group’s properties and corporate offices.

Residents of each facility brought canned food items to be donated to local food banks, churches or a food pantry of their choosing. Following the donations, a committee was created to design the sculptures.

Gay Molnar, president of the Calamar Foundation, said it’s pleasing to give back locally.

“We are very happy to donate it to the seniors at the Town of Wheatfield. We’re born and bred in the Town of Wheatfield, and this is our corporate  home. … Each year we’re going to be donating and giving back to our communities,” she said.

Molnar said the winners of the competition came from Auburn. The design was a giant football stadium with players, cheerleaders, fans, a concession stand and even a tailgate party. Another winner came from the Midwest, and Molnar said that design was a giant corncob.

During the presentation, Molnar and Calamar presented the sculpture to Town of Wheatfield seniors Arlene Mante, Eileen Wylan and Eileen Monroe. Wheatfield Supervisor Don MacSwan was also in attendance.
