Passport and pistol permit services expanding in North Tonawanda
Niagara County Clerk Joseph Jastrzemski announced the start of the “shared services initiative,” which now allows the county to expand its services to the City of North Tonawanda.
The Niagara County clerk’s office will offer its pistol permit and passport processing services at North Tonawanda City Hall on the second Wednesday of each month from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., changing from the former location at 500 Wheatfield St.
“The shared services initiative with North Tonawanda is a necessary step in the right direction for residents to have these services offered at a location that makes the process easier and more efficient,” Jastrzemski said.
This initiative is a result of the efforts led by North Tonawanda Clerk/Treasurer Matt Parish and North Tonawanda Alderman-at-Large Robert Pecoraro in their partnership with the county and its representatives. The shared services will allow residents to either amend or apply for pistol permits, as well as passports directly in North Tonawanda, as opposed to traveling to Lockport.
Before his appointment as clerk/treasurer, Parish worked for the Niagara County clerk’s office as passport manager for five years. In that span, he joined forces with Jastrzemski in planning the initiative.
“In my experience, I recognized that residents truly appreciated having the ability to walk in and complete their passport application without scheduling an appointment. Alderman Pecoraro has the CLARO legal team here (NT City Hall) once a month and, by adding a satellite passport acceptance facility, which brings all three services together, (it) is a perfect fit,” Parish said.
The initiative has the full support of members of Niagara County Legislature, including Legislator Randy Bradt, R-North Tonawanda.
“The partnership with the City of North Tonawanda will provide a centralized location for a variety of services, including obtaining pistol permits and passports. Sharing services among communities not only saves money, but optimizes residents' time by allowing them to only have to go to one convenient location,” Bradt said.
