On Tuesday, Youngstown native Joseph Cecconi signed an entry-level contract with the Dallas Stars of the NHL.

Cecconi, 21, has played the last four seasons as a defenseman at the University of Michigan. In his time donning the maize and blue, Cecconi scored eight goals and dished out 53 assists while anchoring the Wolverines’ defense.

Cecconi, who was drafted by the Stars with the 12th pick of the fifth round in 2015, was part of the 2017 United States national under-20 team, which won the gold medal over Canada, 5-4.

The 6-foot-2-inch defenseman played his first game with the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League – a minor league affiliate of the Dallas Stars – on Wednesday night.

Additionally, Cecconi spent time with the Buffalo Jr. Sabres hockey team and the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the United States Hockey League.
