Niagara County Legislature Chairman Wm. Keith McNall allocated $2,000 to the Salvation Army of Lockport through a resolution last month during a code blue.

This past February, temperatures dangerously entered into the negatives, and a code blue was issued in Lockport and other surrounding cities. The Salvation Army of Lockport used its location to provide shelter for this entire period, expending most of its available resources. At that point, it reached out to McNall for support.

“This resolution is an effort to assist the Salvation Army with their code blue program. After learning that they were in need of resources, it was necessary in providing the vital funding to ensure that individuals will not be left out in the cold,” McNall said.

A code blue is issued when extreme winter conditions pose a threat of serious harm or death to individuals without shelter. In a code blue situation, the Salvation Army plays a crucial role in the community by opening its doors for those who need to escape the potentially fatal temperatures.
