Obituary: Heinz A. Siegwarth

Heinz A. Siegwarth, 90, of Youngstown, the beloved husband of Rosamond Dossert Presutti Siegwarth, entered into rest on Friday, March 1, 2019, at the Northgate Health Care Facility in North Tonawanda.

Born in Wossingen, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany on July 8, 1928, he was the son of the late August and Mina Haag Siegwarth. Heinz immigrated to Canada in 1951, then to the United States in 1955. He was proud to become a U.S. citizen in 1962.

On May 22, 1976, Heinz married Rosamond and together they made their home in Youngstown. He enjoyed flying sailplanes and was a member of the Rochester Soaring Club in the 1960s and 1970s.

Heinz enjoyed soccer and was an avid fan of the World Cup. He shared his love of the sport by coaching youth soccer with the Niagara Pioneer Soccer League in the 1970s and 1980s, eventually serving as league president for two years.

Heinz continued to nurture his love of aviation in retirement by becoming a member of the Niagara Frontier Vintage Aircraft group, where he was involved in restoring vintage aircrafts and the setup of the Niagara Falls Aerospace Museum.

Heinz was very proud to be an American citizen and a resident of his beloved Youngstown.

Trained as a draftsman and tool and die maker in Germany, Heinz was a foreman and maintenance engineer. He was employed at the Carborundum Co. in Niagara Falls for 31 years, from 1955 to 1986. Following retirement, he worked for Occidental Chemical Co. as a contract engineer for six years, finally retiring for good in 1992.

Surviving are his wife, Rosamond Dossert Presutti Siegwarth; his children, Barbara (Carl) LaPlante, Rita (Andrew) Warrick, Matthew (Meghan) Presutti and Rebecca (Gerry) Goris; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and friends.

Family and friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, at Hardison Funeral Homes Inc., North Fourth and Ridge streets, Lewiston. A funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, in St. Bernard’s R.C. Church, Hinman and Second streets, Youngstown, with the Rev. Monsignor David LiPuma officiating. Please assemble at the church.
