Heart, Love & Soul Food Pantry and Dining Room will host its Annual Recognition Dinner at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, at the Russell J. Salvatore Dining Commons at Niagara University.

Each year, Heart and Soul recognizes outstanding groups and individuals for their commitment to the organization’s mission and values. The Partner in Ministry Award honors those who support the agency’s ministry. The Niagara Falls Police Department is this year’s recipient. Members of the Police Department work closely with HLS to serve those in need in community.

The Spirit of Heart, Love and Soul Award honors those who live in their own sphere a spirit of service similar to HLS’s mission. Brother Martin Schneider, C.M., and Jennifer Diez are this year’s honorees.

The Frances Ficorilli Volunteer Award, named after HLS’s founder, honors volunteers who have given many hours of faithful service to the agency and local community. This year, Matt and Yvonne Davis, founders of Lord’s Day Table, will be recognized.

Heart, Love & Soul was initiated in 1983 by a prayer group from Sacred Heart Parish led by Frances Ficorilli. In response to needs in the community, HLS is developing a one-stop center called Daybreak to increase access to services and improve the service delivery system to achieve greater impact for people in need. Daybreak will provide basic stabilization supports (laundry, showers, mail) and wrap-around services through partner agencies located onsite to help clients achieve goals such as acquiring an education credential, gaining job skills, securing and maintaining housing, or improving health.

To date, 20 agencies have signed MOUs to participate in Daybreak, with more expected in the months ahead. For more information about Daybreak, contact Mark Baetzhold at 716-525-5077.

HLS must raise more than $600,000 per year in the private sector to continue serving those suffering from hunger and poverty. The annual recognition dinner is its largest fundraiser.
