Anthony Dell’Isola, the New York Power Authority’s resident construction manager at the Niagara Power Project, is being recognized tonight by the Erie-Niagara Chapter of the New York State Society of Professional Engineers as its Engineering Manager of the Year for 2019. The award ceremony coincides with National Engineers Week (Feb. 17-23) and is scheduled to take place at Grapevine Banquets in Depew.

Dell’Isola is the construction manager for the Life Extension and Modernization (LEM) program for the Lewiston Pump Generating Plant, the Niagara Power Project’s auxiliary facility. The $460 million LEM, which was begun in 2012, is more than 75 percent done, and scheduled to be completed by 2022.

A NYPA employee for more than 16 years, Dell’Isola is also spearheading improvements at the Niagara switchyard as part of an ongoing transmission LEM at Power Authority facilities in Western, Northern and Central New York. At Niagara, the work includes replacing decades-old autotransformers, breakers, switchgear, bus work and conductors.

“Over the years, Tony Dell’Isola has developed significant engineering knowledge of the Niagara Power Project and has applied his expertise to the efficiency and reliability of this tremendous facility,” said Patricia Lombardi, NYPA vice president for project management. “In his current role, Tony brings this experience to the table and drives to execute a large portfolio of varied engineering and digital upgrade projects at the facility. It’s nice to see our appreciation of him echoed by the engineering community.”

Dell’Isola’s responsibilities include overseeing deployment of smart sensors on equipment throughout the plant to provide data for analysis to NYPA’s Integrated Smart Operations Center in White Plains – one of its advanced digital hubs. The sensors provide greater situational awareness of equipment assets and are part of NYPA’s signature goal of becoming the first fully digital utility in the nation.

“It’s an honor to be recognized by colleagues in one’s own profession and an eminent organization like the Erie-Niagara Chapter of the New York State Society of Professional Engineers,” Dell’Isola said. “I also view this as a testament to the reliability and efficiency of the Niagara Project and the dedication and professionalism of the Power Authority and its workforce.”

Dell’Isola serves as a board member and supervisory committee chairman for Niagara’s Choice Federal Credit Union. He is an active member of the Renaissance Club of North Tonawanda. His hobbies include camping, skiing and auto repair. He and his wife, Lisa, live in North Tonawanda and have two children, Michael and Marisa.
