Tuesday night, in what Town of Niagara Supervisor Lee Wallace called record time, the Town Board held its regular meeting for the month of February.

The board declared a negative declaration, which shows no harm to the environment, in accordance with the State Environmental Quality Review on part of a site plan from Mercado Development in regard to outdoor seating at a new food hall at the Fashion Outlets Mall.

The food hall, named Mercado Place, is expected to open in the spring of 2019.

At 16,000 square feet, the food hall has capacity to feature up to 16 merchants.

The space will be located along Military Road, with floor to ceiling glass and patio-style seating around the building’s perimeter. There will also be an area in the space dedicated to live entertainment, cooking classes and wine tastings.

The board issued the negative declaration and then resolved, based on the site plan approval from the Planning Board, the request from Dan Vecchies of Mercado Development to have outdoor seating.

•In other news, the board approved a request from Niagara Active Hose Fire Co. to add Tyler White, Justin Berniet and Kayla Townsend to its roster.

The Town Board also approved a one-year contract with Bob Koshinski of All WNY Services to provide promotional services to the town.

The meeting began with a public hearing regarding an increase in administrative charge against an unpaid water/sewer account from $25 to $100. The hearing drew no comment, and a motion was later approved for the increase.

In closing comments, Wallace spoke briefly about a possible switch to LED lighting standards throughout the town.

“We are exploring that and we’ll be looking into other options as we move forward in the next coming months,” Wallace said. “That’ll be a real big savings to the town overall once it’s done. We’re working with … National Grid on a grant program to get this accomplished.”

The Town of Niagara now joins the likes of the Town of Wheatfield, which also begun an exploration into switching lighting standards to LED.

The next Town of Niagara Town Board meeting is 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 19.
