The Niagara Falls Community Development Department (NFCD) is launching the small business support fund (SBSF) to help local entrepreneurs improve their businesses.

“Investing in locally owned businesses directly improves our community’s quality of life,” said Seth Piccirillo, director of Community Development. “Our dollars have the greatest impact when they stay in our neighborhoods, and supporting locally owned businesses is an effective way to do that.”

The SBSF is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and replaces NFCD’s commercial façade renovation program. The new grant program offers a wider range of applicable renovations, calling for competitive applications in February and August 2019. The matching grant fund includes an initial $138,000 in HUD funds, ensuring at least a quarter of million-dollar investment in Niagara Falls businesses through this program.

Exterior renovations and beatification, and the renovation of buildings that include residential units, will be prioritized.

Grants will be made available to businesses in both the NFCD target area, which consists of the Pine Avenue Business District, Niagara Street Business District, the North End, Center City neighborhoods, as well as the Buffalo Avenue Business District in LaSalle.

Interested business owners can visit https://nf-cd.org/smallbusiness to learn more about the program or to complete the initial letter of intent.
