The Niagara Career and Technical Education Center HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration) students recently had an up-close look at the rink at KeyBank Center in downtown Buffalo. Teacher Vincent Piaskowski and his junior and senior classes were the guests of head engineer Bruce Johnson.

“It was a fantastic tour,” Piaskowski said. “Mr. Johnson also oversees the HarborCenter ice skating rink and talked to the students about the different water systems that are used for both facilities. They also saw the heating and cooling systems and toured the press box.”

The students loved the tour and were fascinated by the larger-scale systems. They were pleasantly surprised when Johnson gave them all a Buffalo Sabres yearbook and a scarf at the end of their tour.

“We are so grateful and appreciative of the time that Mr. Johnson took to show the students around and answer all their questions,” Piaskowski said. “It was a great experience for us.”
