Riverside-Salem: Suicide prevention program set

Dr. Celia Spacone will present a suicide prevention program from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, at Riverside-Salem United Church of Christ Cottage, 3449 West River Road, Grand Island.

Spacone’s presentation, “Talk Saves Lives,” will cover risk factors, warning signs, protective factors and how to help someone.

Spacone recently retired as the executive director of the Buffalo Psychiatric Center, where she spent a 32-year career in various positions. Spacone was awarded the 2017 New York State Suicide Prevention Award for her accomplishments in making suicide a never event at the Buffalo Psychiatric Center. She earned her bachelor’s degree at Buffalo State College. She went on to become a New York state-licensed psychologist and earned her Master of Education and Ph.D. at the University of Buffalo. Since retiring from the BPC, she was named the coordinator of the Suicide Prevention Coalition of Erie County.

All are welcome to this free event, which will include a potluck.
