Herman seeking re-election in Town of Niagara

Town of Niagara Highway Superintendent Robert E. Herman Sr. recently announced he seeks the support of residents to be re-elected for his third term. During his tenure, Herman said he believes there’s four key areas of accomplishments he has made.

Training for highway employees

In his first term, he started sending highway employees to paving school at the Road Institute in Pennsylvania. This training was very much needed to start the process of repaving and repairing the town’s roads. The training has paid dividends for the town, which has led to over 40 roads being resurfaced or repaved in the last seven years.

Repairing the drainage

The Highway Department has worked hard cleaning ditches, replacing worn out drainage pipes and catch basins that have fallen apart over the years.

Replacing of much-needed new equipment and trucks

The town has two new plow trucks, which replace trucks that were over 20 years old. Herman standardized the fleet to one type of truck, so any operator would be able to feel comfortable in any one of the trucks. Also, a new excavator and skid steer with attachments to help in road construction, as well as drainage, is now part of the fleet.

Finally, leaf pick up

Working together, the town’s garbage provider, Republic Services, has given the department the money to buy leaf pick up machines, so leaves would not have to go into the landfill.

Herman promises to keep open lines of communication with residents while handling issues directly and always operating with honesty and integrity. Herman is a registered Democrat and has lived in the Town of Niagara for over 40 years along with his wife, Brenda, while raising their four sons.
