Thursday, as many celebrated Valentines Day or prepared a special evening for their significant other, Wegmans celebrated its 20th anniversary at its location at 1577 Military Road.
Employees wore red “Party Like It’s 1999” hooded sweatshirts to commemorate the day.
Around 11 a.m. employees gathered and welcome customers in with a chant spelling out the Wegmans name letter-by-letter, twice.
Military Road Wegmans Manager Michael Sigurdson also offered a few remarks regarding the 20th anniversary extravaganza and praised the employees at the grocery store.
“Today is an incredibly special day. We are celebrating 20 years at the Greater Niagara Region in Niagara Falls. So there’s a lot of love going on here today; I know it’s Valentines Day, but we’re here to celebrate with out people. We’re celebrating with our wonderful community partners – Connie Brown of the United Way is here.
“We’re blessed to have such wonderful employees who make this an incredible place to work and incredible place to shop. They make a difference for organizations like the United Way, the Boys and Girls Club and the Food Bank of Western New York. … Not only that, but they make it a really, really wonderful place to come to work every single day. They drive our high standards, they live our values, make it a wonderful place to work and a wonderful place to shop.
“We certainly want to acknowledge 20 incredible years so far, but we’re going to be looking forward to at least 20 more,” Sigurdson said.
