Two leading United Way organizations in Niagara County – the United Way of the Tonawandas and United Way of Greater Niagara – announced completion this week of their merger and consolidation of services. Now operating under United Way of Greater Niagara, both chapters have come together to oversee and coordinate the services of 29 organizations throughout Niagara County, supporting a total of 46 different programs in the area.

JoAnn Mierzwa, former executive director of United Way’s Tonawanda chapter, will serve as a consultant with the organization until the end of 2019.

“We are confident this merger will make our community stronger and enhance the services we provide for the many agencies we serve throughout Niagara County,” Mierzwa said. “Both the cities of Tonawanda and North Tonawanda will benefit greatly from one central United Way chapter that can better support the thousands of individuals we’ve served for years in our district.”

“The decision to join forces makes sense geographically and financially,” said Connie Brown, president and CEO of United Way of Greater Niagara. “As we continue to work with our community partners and serve the needs of dozens of Niagara County agencies, we look forward to expanding our reach and making a positive impact on all our stakeholders throughout the region.”

“We are extremely pleased to now be serving the Tonawandas through this exciting merger,” said Robert Kazeangin, chairman of the United Way of Greater Niagara board. “With many fundraising initiatives planned, it’s certainly going to be an exciting 2019.”

All services for the region will be consolidated and performed out of United Way of Greater Niagara’s office located at 6420 Inducon Drive in Sanborn.
