Basketball game dedicated to Neville family

Niagara-Wheatfield High School and Grand Island High School might be rivals on the basketball court, but come Jan. 8, the two schools will join together to remember someone very close to their hearts.

The Vikings lost a dear friend recently in the fall after a battle with breast cancer – Julie Neville, who was a teacher at Huth Road Elementary and one-time JV basketball coach for the Vikings. Neville has four young children and left a legacy of love and dedication to her family. She’s also the daughter of Grand Island Athletic Director Jon Roth.

This Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. the Vikings and Falcons we’ll play in the 2019 Hoops for Hope game at Niagara-Wheatfield. The game will honor the life of the Grand Island wife, mother, coach and teacher. All proceeds from the event will go directly to the Neville Family Education Fund.

Admission to the game is a $3 donation. At the event, there will be a bake sale, half-court shot opportunity, 50/50 raffle, basket auction and more.

The game is also slated a “Pink-out” game, with all attendees encouraged to wear their best pink attire.

Those interested in donating a basket and/or individually wrapped baked goods, or purchasing Hoops for Hope bracelets or cards may contact the Niagara-Wheatfield Athletic Department at 215-3616.
