Kelly's Country Store opened the season of giving by presenting a check for $1,000 to Mercy Flight.
Santa was on hand Thursday morning at the store, located at 3121 Grand Island Blvd., to present the donation, made with funds raised from Kelly's fresh Christmas tree sales last year.
The Kelly family said they chose Mercy Flight due to all the community members they help when minutes matter.
Kevin Kelly, vice president of Kelly's Country Store said proceeds from this year's Christmas tree sales will be presented next year to support the DeGlopper Memorial expansion.
Jessica McKay, marketing and development coordinator for Mercy Flight, accepted the donation on behalf of the nonprofit organization that transports those in need of critical care and air transportation. She said the $1,000 will go toward supplies for helicopters as well as ambulances on the ground.
"We are so grateful and so indebted to our donors such as Kelly's Country Store," McKay said. "This year, we just purchased three brand new helicopters, so the more money we can raise and the more money that is donated is especially crucial this year and the years going forward."
