There is a countless number of local groups and organizations that donate their time to help residents in the Town of Niagara and neighboring communities. On Tuesday night, the Town of Niagara and the Fashion Outlets Mall gave back to those who are always searching to better the lives of local residents.
The town, in conjunction with the mall, continued its 20-plus year tradition of "Giving Fashionably." The initiative donates, in total, $50,000 to local organizations and groups. In the 20-plus years of existence, "Giving Fashionably" has donated over $1 million to local causes.
"It's a wonderful event. It's been going on a long time - more than 20 years," Town of Niagara Supervisor Lee Wallace said. "I think we're only one of the towns that I know of that does something like this in conjunction with the Outlet Mall. It's a wonderful event, we're real happy we can do something like this and we know it goes to good causes."
In a press release John Doran, senior manager of Fashion Outlets of Niagara Falls, USA, said, "This annual tradition has become one of our favorites at the Fashion Outlets.  It's easy to get caught up in the material things during the holiday season, but we recognize and value the importance of giving back. There's no better way to get in the holiday spirit than coming together with our wonderful community, and partners at the Town of Niagara, to give back."
At the event Tuesday night, Wallace was joined by Doran and Town of Niagara councilmen Marc Carpenter, Rich Sirianni and Sam Gatto, as the five handed out checks to representatives of the local organizations.
This year's beneficiaries included, A Hand Up (Peanut Butter & Jelly Drive), Niagara Active Hose Fire Co., Active Hose Exempt Firemen, Town of Niagara Recreation Committee, Belden Center Block Club, Carolyn's House (YWCA of Niagara Frontier), Coats For Kids, Community Missions of Niagara Frontier Inc., Empower, HART Interfaith Inc., Heart, Love & Soul Food Pantry, Kiwanis Club of Niagara-Wheatfield, Mount St. Mary's Hospital Foundation, Niagara County Volunteer Firemen's Association, Niagara Frontier Grandparent Program, Niagara Gospel Rescue Mission, Niagara Hospice, Opportunities Unlimited, American Heart Association, American Legion LaSalle Post 1142; American Red Cross, Western NY Chapter; National MS Society Upstate NY Chapter, Niagara Arts & Cultural Center, Niagara County Meals on Wheels, Rivershore Inc., Rotary Club of Niagara County Central, St. Vincent DePaul Parish Nurse Health Care, St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry, Town of Niagara Business & Professional Association, Town of Niagara Historical Society, Niagara Community Action Program Inc., Town of Niagara Lioness, Town of Niagara Lions Club, United Way of Greater Niagara, Veterans One-Stop Center of WNY Inc., Aquarium of Niagara, Relay For Life (American Cancer Society), Niagara Memorial Medical Center, VFW Post 917, Niagara Falls Boys and Girls Club, Western New York Heroes, NIMAC, Niagara No. 1 Fire Co. Exempts, The Salvation Army, Youngstown VFW Post 313, and HANCI Health Association of Niagara County.
Wallace said what the organizations do for the community is immeasurable.
"What they do for our community ... it can't be measured in dollars and cents. They're the kinds of groups that are out there, that do the goodwill for the people that we need more of," Wallace said.
Wallace added that doing the donations in December around the holidays is the perfect time, as many are in the giving spirit with Christmas right around the corner.
