Friday evening, the Town of Niagara held its second "Noel at Niagara" park lighting ceremony.
The town did a countdown to 6 p.m. right before the light standards throughout Veterans Memorial Community Park were lit. Upon 6 p.m., the park glowed with festive holiday lights and the town residents attending were also entertained with a fireworks display.
Along with the display, the crowd was entertained by the Bob Volkman Band, as well as Santa Claus; and there was free pizza, coffee and hot chocolate.
The display, which includes light standards the town purchased from the United Way, throughout the park will be lit up from 5-9 p.m. daily, until Sunday, Jan. 6.
Of the event, Town of Niagara Supervisor Lee Wallace said, "This is an event that's dear to myself and the board, and the goal is, yearly, to expand this. So, today will be bigger than last year, and then next year will be bigger and bigger. That's the goal."
Assemblyman Angelo Morinello was also in attendance and said the people of the town should be proud of what's been done.
"I think that all of you need to be really thankful for your supervisor and your Town Board. Their vision for the Town of Niagara and the center of community, which you're in right now, is fantastic. You're fortunate - the Town of Niagara is on the move and its only going to get bigger and better," Morinello said.
Coming up, children can visit Santa's Workshop inside the Calvin K. Richards Senior/Youth Activity Center. Children can see Santa Claus and enjoy various holiday activities from 6-8:30 p.m. on Saturdays, Dec. 1-15.
