Richard J. Bernier of Leesburg, Florida, died peacefully on Monday, April 23, 2018, at the age of 82.
After serving in the Navy during the Korean War, Bernier worked construction for 46 years, before retiring from Operating Engineers Local 463. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, TV game shows and family. He always had candy in his pockets for everyone.
He was a devoted and loving husband of 60 years to Sharon (Ortner) Bernier; loving father to his three daughters, Terri (Dennis) Borowicz of Davenport, Florida, Renee' (late Richard) Topolski of Leesburg, Florida, and Kim (Daniel) Reed of Youngstown, New York. He was grandfather of nine, Santina (Jeff) Baker, Amber (Ed) Pyra, David (Ryan) Fittante, Tim (Becka) Borowicz, Jennifer (Joe) Borowicz, Richard (Eva) Stepien, Janelle (Eric) Stepien, Andrew Reed, and Josh (Julia) Reed; and great grandfather to 14.
He is also survived by his siblings, Barbra (late Ernie) Barney of Tennessee, and Patrick (Karen) Bernier of the Town of Niagara.
He was the son of the late Cyrille and Ellen (Hamilton) Bernier, and was predeceased by his sister June Mannes of Florida, and brother Francis J. Bernier of North Tonawanda.
There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 2, at First Presbyterian Church, 3712 Military Road, Niagara Falls.
