The New York State Department of Transportation on Thursday announced work is scheduled to begin this week on the project to remove a portion of the Niagara Scenic Parkway in the City of Niagara Falls. As a result, road closures are scheduled to begin this week.
Beginning at approximately 7 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16, 3rd Street, between Main Street (New York Route 104) and Cedar Avenue will be closed to thru traffic until further notice. Motorists will be directed to follow a posted detour. In addition, the Niagara Scenic Parkway, between Main Street and Findlay Drive will be permanently closed the week of Nov. 26.
Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes.
This work is weather-sensitive and could be delayed in the event of inclement weather.
Recently, NYSDOT and the governor's traffic safety committee unveiled a new public service announcement and social media campaign focused on the importance of respecting flagging personnel. This year's work zone safety campaign, "Flaggers have families too," is designed to remind motorists that flagging personnel are not attempting to disrupt traffic - they are simply doing their jobs and want to get home safely at the end of each work day.
