Evans signs baseball LOI with Elon University

Former Lancer, now Lakeman, to toe Division I mound

Thursday afternoon, Wilson High School's Ian Evans signed his national letter of intent to continue his baseball career at Elon University.
The Elon Phoenix are an NCAA Division I program, who play their league schedule in the Colonial Athletic Association.
Evans, who started his high school career at Lewiston-Porter, made the move over to Wilson before the start of his junior season.
Evans, the tall, right-handed pitcher for the Lakemen, has played varsity baseball since his freshman year at L-P. In his sophomore season with the Lancers, he was an All-Niagara Frontier League honoree, and threw a complete game with five strikeouts to upset No. 1 seeded Starpoint in the Section VI Class A-2 semifinals.
As a junior, Evans pitched 32 innings with 58 strikeouts and accrued an earned run average of 0.86. Although, he'll hit field as a pitcher for the Phoenix, Evans also batted .379 in his first season for the Lakemen, on his way to All-NFL and All-Western New York honors.
Of choosing Elon, Evans said he visited the school twice and "I love the coaches and the atmosphere and just decided to go south and take my talents to Elon. They have a great baseball program, the campus is beautiful, the campus life is awesome and people are great down there."
Elon has finished in the top-four of the CAA regular season standings three out of four seasons since joining the league in 2015.Evans will join the Phoenix as a member of the Class of 2023.

This spring, Evans will finish his senior season as the ace pitcher for the Lakemen.
