West Street K-Kids conduct assembly

Thu, Nov 15th 2018 11:25 am
On Wednesday, Nov. 14, the Kiwanis K-Kids of West Street Elementary School held an assembly based on habit No. 2: "Begin with the end in mind."
The school administers Stephen Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, each year, as it has for the past nine years. The entire student body assembled in the auditorium for an educationally fun presentation by the K-Kids. A special guest appeared on center stage - the Wizard of West Street - to which the K-Kids explained the growth mindset/fix mindset that you are never too old to learn something new and keep your mind open to new ideas. A presentation of a banner with the school's motto #OneWestStreet was carried onto the stage. The banner also included the signature of every student attending the school.
The K-Kids earlier attended the Western New York Character Council Conference, being the only elementary school to be invited, as all others were middle school representatives. Upcoming events on the K-Kids schedule include, collecting food for the area's needy families, and visiting nursing homes during the Christmas holiday season. Kiwanis K-Kids is a leadership program of a group of students enabling the school's students to participate in community and school projects. The West Street K-Kids are advised by Lenore Palmeri. The K-Kids is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Niagara-Wheatfield. Danny Maerten is the club's adviser/liaison to the school.
