Aerial performance channels Amelia Earhart
Daring aerial acrobatics are performed atop a 13-foot spinning airplane sculpture in "Air Heart." Aerial-actor Mara Neimanis brings to life the legendary feminist and aviatrix, Amelia Earhart, who disappeared circumnavigating around the world. Through original script, historical fact and poetic aerialism, Neimanis invokes Earhart's mystery, legend and final flight.
Artpark & Company invites the public to attend an open rehearsal at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, in the Artpark Gallery. Admission is free. The audience is asked to wear warm clothing. Show runtime is one hour with no intermission.
"Air Heart" was written and is performed by Neimanis, directed by Bryce Butler, with sculpture by Tim Scofield. The show will be presented at the Tennessee Williams Theater in Key West, Florida.
Neimanis creates theater in the air using invented aerial apparatus that include mounted and suspended steel sculptures. Her work integrates circus arts with physical acting to create stories, text and characters that explore the rich interplay of imagination between air and ground. Neimanis has brought her unique brand of aerial work to graduate theater programs as well as theaters in the U.S. and abroad. She is also a guild-certified Feldenkrais method practitioner and splits her time in private practice between Western New York and Key West.
