Seventh District legislator cites engagement as reason for her resignation
Niagara County Legislator Kathryn L. Lance announced she will step down from her seat effective immediately. Lance has been a county legislator since 2012.
"It has been an honor to serve the people of Wheatfield and North Tonawanda for the past seven years," Lance said. "During my time in the legislature, I have always made each and every decision based on what is right for my constituents, and based on what is right for Niagara County as a whole."
Lance cited the progress Niagara County has made in delivering the multitude of services that the county provides to county residents in a fiscally responsible manner.
"I am proud of the progress we have made in providing tax stability to the residents and businesses of Niagara County, while continuing to deliver the vital services that people expect, especially when faced with rising costs every year," Lance said. "As a member of the county's economic development committee, low taxes and job creation have always been my priority, and I will be able to look back knowing that I left Niagara County in a better place."
Lance stated she has plans to marry her fiancé at the end of this year and will be starting a new chapter of her life outside of Niagara County. She said she regrets she will be unable to fulfill her term, but is confident the county will continue to move in the right direction.
Niagara County Legislative Chairman Wm. Keith McNall praised Lance's efforts to provide services in the most economically responsible manner possible throughout her tenure.
"Kathryn has been a tireless advocate for fiscal conservatism and financial accountability during her time as a legislator," McNall said. "She has been an integral member of our team, and while we all wish her the best of luck in this new chapter of her life."
Majority Leader Randy Bradt said the process of selecting someone to fill the unexpired term of Lance will begin shortly.
