The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation will officially open the West River Shoreline Trail at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, at the overlook south of Whitehaven Road.
All are welcome and free to take a bicycle "for an inaugural ride," the State Parks announcement said.
The trail replaces the West River Parkway. The project to convert the parkway to a multi-modal trail. Among the project objectives, according to State Parks were:
•To provide an alternative transportation connection between Buffalo and Niagara Falls "that will be safer for non-motorized vehicles."
•To provide "a critical missing link in the Niagara River Greenway Trail system."
•To enhance connectivity and improve pedestrian and bicycle safety.
•To improve air quality.
