Buffalo is officially being recognized as one of America's friendliest cities.
Locals from cities across the U.S. were asked to share "what their city was best at," and Buffalo scored highest on hospitality toward tourists, neighborly love, manners, politeness and warm dispositions. So, as part of its "Good Goes Round" program, local resident Cheerios is taking over the city and has asked former Buffalo Bills player and local legend Thurman Thomas to kick-off the celebrations to continue to spread the good throughout the city.
From 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Thurman Thomas and Cheerios will take over Buffalo to celebrate America's friendliest city with several events, including:
•A breakfast celebration at Fountain Plaza with free breakfast and a meet-and-greet with Thomas (7:30-9:30 a.m.), open to the public.
•A donation-generating virtual high-five machine, which lets Buffalo citizens high-five a fellow Buffalonian, live, from across the city, helping secure donations for the Thurman Thomas Foundation (see pictured rendering.)
For each high-five given, Cheerios will donate $5 to the Thurman Thomas Foundation, supporting local Buffalo families and scholarships at Erie Community College - up to $10,000.
•Cheerios will also light the Peace Bridge a bright, happy yellow tomorrow to celebrate Buffalo as the friendliest city.
Keep an eye out for free Cheerios, free parking meters throughout the city and more. Follow #GoodGoesRound and Cheerios on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to find out how to get involved.
