Supply and demand in sync
By AAA of Western and Central New York
Today's national average price for a gallon of gasoline is $2.89, down 2 cents from last week. One year ago, the price was $2.47. The New York state average is $3 - down a penny from last week. A year ago, the state average was $2.67.
AAA Western and Central New York (AAA WCNY) reports the following averages:
  • Batavia - $2.95 (no change since last week)
  • Buffalo - $3 (up 1 cent since last week)
  • Ithaca - $2.96 (down 1 cent since last week)
  • Rochester - $2.95 (down 2 cents since last week)
  • Rome - $2.96 (down 2 cents since last week)
  • Syracuse - $2.92 (down 3 cents since last week)
  • Watertown - $3.03 (no change since last week)
Despite Hurricane Michael devastating parts of Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas, and regional refinery outages in the Pacific Northwest after a pipeline rupture in Canada, the national average has held steady this week. The steadfast average is a sign supply and demand are mostly in sync.
Lower gasoline demand across the nation has also contributed to the national average remaining flat, as supply challenges occurred in certain regions last week. Meanwhile, rising crude prices have led to higher overall gas prices this fall, although domestic production is at an all-time high.
