Obituary: Richard Newcomer

Richard LaRue Newcomer, 83, of Grand Island, husband of June (Fritz) Newcomer, peacefully joined our heavenly father, lord and savior Jesus Christ on Feb. 8, 2018. He was the devoted husband of June Newcomer of 59 years, a nurturing, loving father to his three daughters and one son.
Life began for Richard in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, where he was one of seven children of Dora Miller.
Richard served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War as a mechanic.
Richard and June married in 1958 and made their home on Grand Island.
He was employed at Buffalo Forge as a balancer for 38 years and retired in 1991.
Richard enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, as well as woodworking. He was very creative and was well known for his ability to fix just about anything.
Richard is survived by his wife, June; daughter, Robin Itani (deceased), daughter, June (Daniel) Resetarits of Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania; daughter, Donna LaMonte of Las Vegas; son, David (Donna) Newcomer of Amherst; nine grandchildren: Linda (Daniel) Itani, Amy (Harrell) Walker, Jamie (Mary) Itani, Nicole (Daniel) Cory, Haley (Daniel) Resetarits-Sutton, Mitchell LaMonte, Nicholas Newcomer, Noah Newcomer, Dylan Resetarits; and two great-grandchildren: Timothy Hammond and Robyn Walker. Richard was preceded in death by six siblings: Raymond Newcomer, Betty Fritz, Mary Simpson, Ruth Rohrer Kent, John Newcomer and Robert Newcomer.
Visitation was held Sunday, Feb. 11, at the Kaiser Funeral Home. A celebration of life service for Richard was held Monday, Feb. 12, at Trinity United Methodist Church.
